Thomas Cole
Thomas Cole was an American painter who lived from 1801 to 1848. During this time period America was undergoing big changes like the transfer from a mostly agrarian society to a more industrious one. To industrialize they had to connect the East and the West and so new land was available for settlers to roam and claim. Thomas Cole was a landscape artist who captured the newfound beauty of the west. His paintings feature the theme of romanticism, most prevalent in his deep appreciation of nature and the beautiful landscapes he sought to capture.He also often tended toward allegory in his paintings to tell different stories. Thomas Cole had a profound impact on landscape painting at the time and his works are still highly regarded today.
