Whitman was a very influential American poet and was named "the father of free verse". Whitman was born in Huntington on Long Island in New York. He published many novels over the course of his life and died while revising an American epic. Walt Whitman was a political man throughout his live who opposed slavery. Many people discussed Whitman's sexuality along with his poetry, he is considered to be homosexual or bisexual even thought many people continue to debate this topic.
